02 What 3D scanning is

A digital twin, without touching the car

We project blue lasers and structured-light patterns onto a vehicle and collect millions of measurements per second. What comes back is a model accurate enough to build production parts from.

Where original drawings don't exist, the scan becomes the drawing. Where they do, the scan tells you what was actually built.

01

Capture

Millions of points per second, on location, in one tracked coordinate system.

02

Mesh

The raw point cloud cleaned and closed into a watertight reference model.

03

CAD

Surfaces rebuilt as parametric geometry you can design, machine, mould or print from.

03 The process

From request to delivered geometry in seven working days

01

Request

You tell us the car and the parts.

02

Quote

Within one working day, fixed price per scan.

03

Scan

We come to you. A set of loose parts is half a day; a full car typically one to one and a half days.

04

Process

Raw point cloud to clean mesh, billed hourly on actual time.

05

Deliver

.OBJ via a private Drive folder within 7 working days or STEP if you need CAD.

Step one takes two minutes.

04 Our equipment

Three scanners, one standard

We match the scanner to the job. All of them are metrology-grade, and all of them come to you.

Want to know what a scan of your car costs?

Markerless wherever we can

Our tracking scanners follow their own position in space, so most jobs need nothing stuck to your paint at all. Where a scan does need help, we use Aesub vanishing spray which evaporates on its own and leaves no residue. For high-detail scans of loose parts we sometimes work with marker alignment; those markers go on the parts, never on the car.

asset needed — mesh render of a released scan
interactive .OBJ, drag to rotate
asset needed — functional CAD of the same part
STEP surfaces, same camera
Mesh · drag to rotate · scroll to zoom

Clean mesh (.OBJ)

A watertight reference model. Perfect for fitment checks, renders, simulator assets and measuring — but not editable as engineering geometry.

Functional CAD (STEP)

Surfaces rebuilt as parametric solids with real datums and radii. This is what you machine, mould or 3D-print production parts from.

06 Where we work

11 Questions

Before you ask

How accurate is a 3D scan?+

0.02 mm single-frame, and 0.02 mm + 0.04 mm/m volumetric on our tracking scanners. In practice: accurate enough to machine mating parts from without a test fit.

Do you put stickers or markers on my car?+

Usually not. Our tracking scanners follow their own position in space, so most jobs need nothing on your paint at all. Where a scan does need help we use Aesub vanishing spray, which evaporates on its own and leaves no residue.

For high-detail scans of loose parts we sometimes work with marker alignment — those markers go on the parts, not on the car.

What files do I get?+

.OBJ as standard, STEP when you order scan-to-CAD. Delivered in a private Drive folder, available for 30 days. We keep the raw scans offline for a year in case you come back.

How long does it take?+

Typically seven working days after the scan day, depending on how much processing the job needs. Rush is possible — message Bram.

What do you need from me?+

An indoor space with 1.5 m clearance around the object, controllable lighting, a power outlet, loose parts already removed, bumpers and panels on a covered trestle, and a lift or jack if we're scanning wheel wells, suspension or axles.

Can we keep working on the car while you scan?+

No. The scanner registers movement, so anything that shifts mid-scan corrupts the alignment. Plan the car as stationary for the day.

What's the difference between mesh and CAD?+

A mesh is a picture in three dimensions — perfect to measure and check against, but not editable as engineering geometry. CAD is a rebuilt, parametric model: that's what you produce parts from. Most projects need the mesh; only some need the CAD on top.

Can you scan the engine bay, interior or wheels?+

Yes, all three — each is its own line on the price list, so you only pay for what you need.

Do you travel outside 150 km?+

By arrangement, against travel costs. Shipping loose parts to us is always an option: we scan them and send them back within a week.

Who owns the scan data?+

You do. The scan data belongs to you as the client, so you're free to use the files however you like, with any supplier.
