Bespoke Wheels

Bespoke wheel design from concept to production. From CAD to billet, forged or cast wheels that make cars stand apart.

We believe that wheels are the part that makes the car. By making wheels the statement part of the vehicle we can differentiate and show the purpose of a car. Are we giving it Nike carbon running shoes or Louboutins?

With the production of wheels overseas becoming easier to reach, it might seem that creating wheels is becoming easier. If you want to create designs however that stretch what CNC machines can do and want to make the wheels safe there's only a few manufacturers that will be able to do the job. That's why we work with selected partners that we can trust.

Our clients work with us from the initial sketch through design, production, testing and the final assembly. We as Tornante Studio believe that clients don't want the hustle so we take care of all steps to get you the right wheels for your project.

How we make it happen

1

Reference scans

With every wheel project we start with reference scans of both the wheel wells and the original wheels. With these 3D scans, made with our Revopoint TRACKIT scanner, we can make the wheel fit perfectly and show you how the end result will look in the real wheels well.

2

Visual design

We always start with visual designs to make sure we’re all aligned. Everything we do is made in CAD so we never waste resources and can build on top of designs we made earlier. We export these scans in both flat images (JPEGS) as well as 3D designs that you can view anywhere.

We’ve developed our own Tornante AI Studio so we can show you your wheels on any car, in any environment you want.

3

Select supplier

Based on the visual design we can find the right supplier for your wheels. Based on the design, the technical setup and the application we work with different suppliers. No matter if you want to go forged, 2 piece, 3 piece or carbon fiber, we can find you the right supplier that you can trust.

We need to select the supplier before we make the final design so we can make sure we work according to the specifications of the suppliers and we can prevent iterations on specs later.

4

Technical designs

Now that we have a direction for the design of the wheel and we know who is going to make it, we can start the last phase of designing. We make sure the wheel both works in real life by figuring out how and where we position valve stems, wheel caps and how we cover parts like the bolts. This is the most exciting time for us since we need to get everything packaged within the design we agreed upon. The coolest way to puzzle if you ask us!

5

Digital tests

To be fair, this is not a separate step. We do this during the technical design phase and at every step. We test the wheels on both the strength, rigidity but also on how hard or easy it is to make. We know how CNC machines and carbon molds work so we can keep that in mind with the design of a wheel.

6

Physical test

Based on your production quantity and the country you’re using the wheels, tests need to be done to prove the safety. We can help you with these tests and provide all the necessary information and documentation to pass with flying colors for these tests.

7

Production

Even though we don’t make the wheels ourselves, we always stay involved during the development so you don’t have to worry about questions during development. Leave that up to us.

8

Finish

Sometimes wheels need a specific finish that needs to be done separately from the manufacturing. We’ll make sure that your wheels go through all the steps necessary to get them completely perfect. It doesn’t matter if you want them painted, powder coated or mirror finish polished.

9

Assembly and fit

Last but not least, we’ll assemble the wheels, make sure tires are mounted and we have them balanced with road simulation so they’ll ride silky smooth. Finally we’ll make sure your wheels are mounted so you can enjoy the ride.

We divide developing a wheel in the following phases with the corresponding costs:

  • 3D scan of both wheel wells and current wheels - €1.000,-
  • Creative (non-functional) design €1.250,-
  • Technical design €4.000,-
  • Flow, stress and dynamic testing €1.000,-
  • Sourcing parts €500,-

Production of the wheels depends on the sizes, material and finish and can range from €1.500,- up to €15.000,- for Bugatti Veyron size wheels that need to withstand speeds of 400 km/h.

TüV certification and production calculate for series production are calculated separately.

  • Concept sketches
  • 3D CAD model with tolerances
  • Manufacturing drawings
  • Render package for marketing
  • CFD tests
  • Stress tests
  • Bill of material
  • Assembled parts
